In the world of wedding photography, there is often a debate between the candid and the
composed, but for the Lia Rose couple, I believe the magic exists in the harmony of both.
My approach is based on two distinct moments: the editorial and the unscripted.
The editorial side of my work is about intention, it’s about the quiet drama of the way the
veil falls, the perfect placement of the hands, and the magazine quality portraits that feel
both timeless and fashion forward. It’s the art of making you look like the most elevated
version of yourself.
The unscripted side, however, is about the feelings. It is the raw energy of the day, the tear
that escapes during the vows, the quiet glances that no one else sees. These are the
photos that grow in value over decades.
By blending these two styles, I ensure your gallery isn’t just a collection of images, but a
narrative of your wedding day. You deserve the editorial portraiture, but you also deserve
to remember exactly how you felt.
The Editorial Eye: Creating The Moment
When we speak about “editorial” photography, we are talking about the images that feel
like they belong on the pages of a fashion publication. This is where my background in
fashion and fine art comes to the forefront.
On your wedding day, I take on the role of an artistic director. I’m looking for the best
lighting, the most flattering angles, and the architectural elements of your venue that
create a sense of scale. In my experience, my couples greatly value the way I prompt and
pose, so their true emotions can be the forefront of an image. You don’t have to be
worrying about how to move your body, where to look, where to put your hands, as I direct
you through capturing your connection.
Whether it’s styling your invitation suite intentionally or guiding you through a portrait
session, the goal is to create iconic imagery. These are the photos that you’ll frame on your
walls, that feel sophisticated and polished, while remaining timeless and romantic.
The Documentary Heart: Capturing The Unseen
Conversely, the “unscripted” approach is entirely hands off. It requires a photographer
who is an expert observer, someone who can anticipate a moment before it happens. This
is the heartbeat of your wedding day. It’s the laughter shared over champagne, the deep
exhale your partner takes as you walk down the aisle, and the energy of your guests under
the reception lights. I don’t interfere with these moments, I simply document them. These
images aren’y about perfection, they are about preservation.
I often hear my couples tell me that as they comb through their final wedding album, there
are moments I documented that they weren’t present for and it makes for deeply
impactful imagery.
The Lia Rose Weddings Balance: A Curated Narrative
Why choose between a posed gallery and a candid one when you can have a cohesive
narrative that honors both?
By limiting my calendar bookings per year, I am able to give each couple I work with the
mental space required the navigate these two styles. I don’t want to just take photos, I
want to tell a story. During the portraits, I’ll make sure you’re comfortable and confident
through posing and guidance, and during the ceremony I’ll fade into the background to
capture the authentic legacy of your families.
The Result: A Timeless Legacy
Your wedding photos should be a mirror of your personality; sometimes grand and
celebrated and other times quiet and intimate. When you look back at your album in
twenty years, I want you to see the avant-garde version of your photos, but I also want you
to feel the emotions of the people you love.
